Te Awamutu is also famous as the birthplace of Kiwi musicians Tim and Neil Finn, of Split Enz and Crowed House fame. The town lies in the heart of Waikato farming district, sporting facilities, golf course and rugby sports centre. Other day trips to most parts of the Waikato, includes Waitomo Caves, Raglan, Kawhia and Yardley bush walk. Fishing and hunting are also available in the vicinity. Te Awamutu's Rose Garden and Memorial Park Gardens are particularly attractive with approximately 2000 bushes. The two gardens are linked by the Pioneer Walk. The town holds its annual rose show in November, when blooms are at their best. The Te Awamutu Museum displays the Maori and European history. A highlight is the ancient Maori artifact Uneuku. Mount Pirongia Forest Park A bush-clad mountain offering a mix of walks from 5 minutes to 10 hours, with a hut for trampers near the summit.
